Is this still the
"Cyberspokes Food Bank Run?"
We've had EIGHT successful years "running the show" which raised
$21,397 in cash donations and 11,558 pounds of food, but we've had some family
health issues and employment changes to deal with, so we've decided that we
(Cyberspokes) could no longer be the main organizers of the event.
The Food Bank of WNY is a charity near and dear to our hearts so we will always
and continue to be one of the main supporters and promoters of this event. We
will continue to help out in any way we can. We will also be offering our advice
and experience to the new organizers while continuing to promote the event via
our web site and events emailer.
We've decided to "pass the torch" to Kelly
Shanahan and Paul Roorda with
Buffalo Charities.
As you may know, organizing an event like this takes alot of time, dedication,
volunteers and hard work so anything you can do to help Kelly and Paul out would
be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Each month, 91,000 hungry Western New Yorkers turn to soup
kitchens, food pantries, and other emergency food providers -- 40% are children!
The Food Bank of WNY is a nonprofit
clearinghouse for food solicited from the private sector. The Food Bank
distributes product to approximately 500 charitable programs that feed the needy
in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara Counties. These include food
pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, day care centers, senior citizen
programs, and residential and day programs for the handicapped, youth and those
undergoing drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
For most Western New York bikers, April is the official start of
the warmer Motorcycle Riding Season! Unfortunately, this year an increasing
number of individuals will be standing in line at soup kitchens and food
pantries instead. The Food Bank receives most of its donations during the
Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, so an April event like "Choppers
for Charity" really helps at a time when donations are traditionally at
a dangerous low point
